Are you in crisis?

CWHN has compiled a list of websites and help lines for your immediate assistance.

The Canadian Women's Health Network provides general women's health information only.

CWHN does not provide medical advice and will not respond to requests for information on specific conditions, pharmaceuticals, medical procedures or referrals to health practitioners.

If you feel you need medical attention, please see your health care provider or call your provincial telehealth/telemedicine line.

For issues about healthcare administration (such as questions about drugs covered in your province, finding a doctor, or obtaining a health insurance card, etc.), contact your provincial/territorial government.

If you are looking for health information about a particular disease or condition, review our Women's Health Topics or search our website. Or, have a look at our most frequently asked health information questions. Your question may already be answered under one of the topic areas below:

For our American visitors, please contact the National Women's Health Information Center at 1-800-994-WOMAN (1-800-994-9662) or 1-888-220-5446 for the hearing impaired, or visit their website.

Also try your local public or medical health library.

Public libraries are good places to start. Most of them have access to medical and consumer health databases, as well as their regular collections.

Medical health libraries house a lot of textbooks and journals. However, a growing number of them have consumer health collections available to the general public. Most medical health libraries will help the general public with reference questions, but there may be some costs for printing/faxing and taking out materials. Some may not allow materials to be checked out, but will let you consult the works in-house.
